Those of us around Northern California this summer know that it's been quite cool in most places! Our vineyards are generally tracking about three weeks behind last year. Berry sizes appear smaller than normal for this time of year, which may lead to greater concentration and complexity in the wines. Veraison (the period of color change) has been later than usual too. Gentle ripening is generally good for wine grapes; however, in our Roussanne, a late ripener, continued cool weather will be something to watch. For this wine, it's likely we'll see leaner attributes, as in our highly rated 2007 vintage.
Make a custom wine with us this fall in our Private Label program. We're taking a limited number of sign-ups now.

Coterie Cellars, situated abeam Willow Glen, is pioneering the Urban Winery movement in the South San Francisco Bay Area. As one of the smallest wineries in California, we produce wines made by hand, berry to bottle, from highly regarded vineyards in the Russian River Valley, Santa Lucia Highlands, and Fiddletown. Our approach is to work only with small, exemplary growers, to understand the unique characteristics that each vineyard offers, and to respect those characteristics through gentle winemaking in order to produce the most flavorful and evocative wines for each site.
