2007 Wines

2007 was the inaugural vintage for Coterie Cellars. Our 2007 vintage featured wines from three of the finest vineyards in the Russian River Valley, Santa Lucia Highlands, and Fiddletown. Our red wines sold out a few months after release. Overall production was less than 350 cases.

The Harvest

The 2007 vintage in California was one of the best in recent memory. Many winemakers have called it the best they've ever experienced. Our vineyards generally exhibited lower than normal yields and remarkably long hang times, especially for Pinot Noir. This resulted in outstanding flavor development, excellent concentration, and noteworthy complexity in the wines. At the same time, we saw natural acidities remain considerably well intact. Our 2007 harvest began on September 18 with Syrah from Casatierra Vineyard. We picked our blocks of Pinot Noir from Saralee's Vineyard at the end of September followed by our blocks of Pinot Noir from Fairview Road Ranch well into October. We concluded the harvest on October 15 when we picked our Roussanne just ahead of a rain system that punctuated the end of the growing season. Ten days prior, we had picked a small amount of Viognier from the hillside that overlooks our Roussanne block. After conducting blending trials later in the vintage, we decided to assemble the 2007 Saralee's Vineyard Roussanne with 22% of this Viognier.
