Building on the award-winning vintage from this vineyard in 2007, our 2008 Casatierra Vineyard Rosé is a dry yet pleasingly full-bodied rosé made in the Provençal style. Compared with the 2007 vintage, this wine has a slightly deeper tint and exhibits more primary fruit than zest and spice. This was the result of a bit longer contact time with the skins, the use of a small amount of saignée bled directly from the cold soak of our Syrah, and a little less time in the barrel. We fermented this wine in individual barrels and aged it sur lies in neutral French oak for six months to develop complexity. This resulted in a serious wine that belies the typical classification of American rosés as something simple to be consumed quickly.
This wine exhibits enticing aromas of melon, fresh fig, and hibiscus with faint notes of cherry. Rich fruit and wet stone commingle across your palate concluding in a round, refreshing finish. Representative food pairings: pâtés, summer salads with lardons, or moderately aromatic cheeses served with fresh figs. We usually recommend just a slight chill to lighter wines, but we feel this wine is best cold.
